Chernivtsi Received Grant from the German State Bank KfW

On December, 11 Chernivtsi Mayor Mykola Fedoruk and Director of the bank KfW in Kyiv Christian Dorner signed agreement about allocation of the grant to the sum of EUR 500 thousand as payment for experimental services of working out of the feasibility study of the project “Water Supply of Chernivtsi”.
Christian Dorner noted that the German state bank KfW has already been cooperating with Ukraine for 15 years. For the given period the bank has invested about EUR 500 million in realization of innovative projects in the sector of housing and communal services, energy saving and finance. Since 2007 representatives of the bank have visited 20 cities of Ukraine. In 15 ones they carried out thorough research work. According to the results of these studies, the bank has chosen Chernivtsi, Lviv and Kremenchuk for further cooperation and development of innovations. Chernivtsi interested the bank by readiness to constructive cooperation and availability of concrete innovative projects, one of which is that of modernization of water-supply system.
According to the signed agreement, the bank on irrevocable bases allocates to Chernivtsi grant to the sum of EUR 500 million for development of the feasibility study of the project of modernization of the city water-supply system. Open tender was carried out to determine feasibility study executor. Eight companies from Germany, Denmark, and Austria took part in it. After qualification selection three companies, which scored more than 70 out of possible 100 points, came to the final.
The principal aim of the project is improvement of the system of water-supply of Chernivtsi. Mayor Mykola Fedoruk noted that Chernivtsi is intended to make use of the German experience, in order to bring water-supply in Chernivtsi in line with European standards, both in quality of water and economical indices of this service.
The final result of the project realization may become construction of the Prut water intake.
