Representatives from the Municipality of Lodz Brought Humanitarian Aid to Chernivtsi Jan Witowski - secretary of the City Council of Lodz brought to Chernivtsi humanitarian aid for people sick with acute respiratory virus and influenza. The Poles, having heard about the epidemic and great amount of sick people in Ukraine, decided to provide operative help to Lviv and Chernivtsi. Value of the medical equipment presented by the Polish colleagues to Ukrainian cities makes up EUR 14 thousand. President of the city of Lodz Jezy Kropiwnicki in his letter to Chernitsi City Mayor Mykola Fedoruk expressed disquietude about the epidemic situation in Ukraine and hope that help from the neighbors will contribute to the rapid recovery of Chernivtsi citizens. The equipment four spray pumps for droppers and a pulse oximeter was passed to the Intensive Care department of the city clinical hospital 3.

On November, 14 the medicines arrived to the Ukrainian border. Now they’re undergoing the procedure of certification of Ukrainian medical authorities.

Nonfood Markets Haven’t Worked Till November, 13 The ban on operation of the nonfood markets in Chernivtsi, including the city trade complex Kalynivskyi Market was prolonged till November, 13. Such a decision was adopted at the joint meeting of the city extraordinary anti-epidemic commission and the headquarters aimed at counteraction to the epidemic of influenza, taking into account resolution of the regional extraordinary anti-epidemic commission and considering that for the last week epidemic level was 7.4 times exceed in the city and 12.6 times in the region. In such a situation, opening of the markets can cause second wave of morbidity among the population of the city. The resolution about resumption of markets’ operation in the regional center was adopted only after stabilization of the epidemic situation in Chernivtsi and the region. The city headquarters aimed at counteractions to the epidemic of influenza urges to the public and political organizations not to profiteer on the situation and in their estimations to use exceptionally conclusions and recommendations of the specialists.

All-Ukrainian Week of Road Safety On the initiative of the UNO and support of the all-Ukrainian public organization Association of the Road Safety all-Ukrainian week of road safety and worldwide Memorial Day dedicated to the victims of road traffic accidents was carried out in Ukraine from November, 9 till November, 15. On November, 15 at 12 PM all the Chernivtsi citizens who own a car were called to make a stop for one minute in order to commemorate those who died in road traffic accidents.

Chernivtsi Street Was Named After the Philologist According to the decision of the City Council session, new street that combines Khreshchatynska Street and Marmoroz’ka Street was named after the outstanding Ukrainian folklore researcher, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, famous Chernivtsi citizen Oleksa Romanets. Oleksa Romanets 1921-1961 is an outstanding Ukrainian folklore researcher, philologist and critic, high school pedagogue, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and All-Ukrainian Society of Ethnographers. There are more than 600 scientific, popular science and journalist publications in his masterpiece including books Literary Bukovyna, Sources of Fraternity, Hey, Hotyn, Famous City and others. The main problems of his works are folklore and literary processes in Bukovyna, eastern-Romanic-Ukrainian folk and literary relations. Only Provision Sectors Will Operate On All the Markets of Chernivtsi City Mayor Mykola Fedoruk met with the heads of markets and mini-markets of the city. They were informed about the resolution about suspending of operation of all the nonfood markets and micro-markets of the city. On all the markets only the sectors of provision goods sale will operate. Law enforcing bodies will take means of influence to the sellers of the nonfood goods who refused to stop trade. Directors of the markets were warned about the personal responsibility as to adherence on their objects to the mask regime and also carrying out of disinfection measures. They were also recommended to limit the schedule of markets’ operation, to increase amounts of citrus and other vitamin goods realization. Directors of the markets got leaflets about measures of prophylactic of influenza and acute respiratory virus infections in order to distribute them among the entrepreneurs of the markets.

Epidemic was announced in Chernivtsi. City Headquarters was established to Fight with Infl On October, 30 Chernivtsi city extraordinary anti-epidemic committee announced epidemic of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections. Vice Mayor Inna Onatska headed the headquarters established for the operative administration of the situation. Representatives of all the city services and law enforcing bodies became members of the headquarters. The headquarters is working twenty-four hours a day. City Mayor Mykola Fedoruk held the first organizing meeting. Work of all the preschool, school, out-of-school, and higher educational establishments of all the forms of property was suspended in order to stabilize the epidemic situation. District network of the medical-prophylactic establishments works according to the special schedule. Medical-prophylactic establishments work in two shifts without days off. Requests for policlinic physicians are accepted till 17.00, medical services at home are provided till 24.00. In polyclinics patients with high temperature are urgently attended.

Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper “The Day” Larysa Ivshyna Was On the Visit to the Municipa The other November day, editor-in-chief of the newspaper The Day Larysa Ivshyna was on the visit to the Municipal A. Dobryasnskyi library. She visited this establishment two years ago and was pleasantly surprised that in the center of the city there was such a unique library. An article about Anatoliy Dobryanskyi had immediately appeared in the periodical The Day. This time Larysa acquainted herself with the room-library of Peter Demant. Life destiny of the writer and former prisoner of the GULAG is described in the biographical books of Vernon Kress Peter Demant. Mrs. Larysa found on the shelves of his library many books that arose her scientific interest, particularly about the system of the GULAG and how people survived there. As a gift to the Municipal library Larysa Ivshyna presented the book Extract 150 in two parts.




The 104th Autumn of Tsolik Zisilis

The 104th Autumn of Tsolik Zisilis On October, 17 the oldest Chernivtsi citizen Zisilis Tsolik celebrated his 104th birthday. He was born in remote1905 in the city of Khotyn of Chernivtsi region. His father was a rabbi in the synagogue of Khotyn. In the times of war, Germans took the rabbi to ghetto and soon shot. Tsolik’s father was buried in the communal grave. Tsolik had also got to the ghetto, but survived. He worked in the mine of the concentration camp that was situated in the Vinnytsya district. Everyday he met death, mockery and hunger. Even today he thinks about the relatives he lost in the concentration camps with tears in his eyes. Tsolik Zisilis worked during all his life. He knows all the prayers from the Torah by heart. Till recently, two times a day he was going to the synagogue to pray.
