More than 60 Places for Installing of the Election Campaign Stands were allotted More than 60 Places for Installing of the Election Campaign Stands were allotted in Chernivtsi Executive committee of the City Council sanctioned the list of places for installing of the presidential election campaign stands. Predominantly, these are places near the municipal transport stops, educational buildings and dormitories of the universities and colleges, the largest trading centers and shops, markets, industrial enterprises, station buildings, parks, public gardens and other establishments. In general, 61 places on the streets of the city were allotted for the installing of the election campaign stands. Besides, agitation stands will be installed near the buildings of the voting stations. Heads of the regional councils were charged to secure installing of the election stands in the allotted places and near the voting stations. It’s forbidden to place election campaign leaflets on the illuminating holders, supports of the trolley-bus lines, fences, walls of the buildings and edifices, trees, etc.

The City budget received UAH 23.4 million for the lease of land, i.e. 19 more than planned and twice as much as the previous year. It was announced by Iryna Fedorak head of the division of lease of land of the department of the city planning complex and land relations of the City Council. As of October, 1 of this year, 4.5 thousand of lease of land contracts with total area of 808.0 hectares are valid in Chernivtsi. 559 of them were worked out during 9 months of this year. When entering into the land-lease contracts, one-time extra fees on the development of the social and cultural infrastructure of Chernivtsi for the amount of UAH 2 million 29.5

The artists were trying to convey the mood of our city, its openness, versatility and hospitality. Please accept this present and dispose it in Chernivtsi. Ways to Reduce Smoking are Searched in Chernivtsi Working group elaborating measures concerning prevention and reduction of smoking in Chernivtsi was set up by the order of Mayor Mykola Fedoruk. It is to generalize all the offers as to arrangement and diminution of smoking in the city and work out appropriate project of resolution for the consideration of the City Council session. Working group that will elaborate the project of the resolution of the session about arrangement and reduction of smoking in Chernivtsi is headed by Vice Mayor Inna Onatska. Deputies of the City Council, experts of the Department of housing and communal services, directorates of health care, education, Law department and Department for family and youth issues, representatives of the regional Centre of Health, city sanitary-and-epidemiological station and Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine are members of the working group.

Jeweller’s Shop-Palace “Olimp” was opened 04.10.2009 at 4:00 PM a jeweler’s shop-palace Olimp was opened at the address: Chernivtsi, 32 Holovna Street 1-3 I. Franko Street. Assortment: jewels, adornments made by native and foreign manufacturers, accompanying goods. Non-residential premises were privatized in 2006 and 2007. In the course of preparations to the opening the owner fulfilled reconstruction of the object into jeweler’s shop, carried out external trimming of the object and adjacent territory.

This year journalists-winners of the competition got official gratitude from the Mayor and souvenir jubilee watches on the solemnities dedicated to the City days. Reviewer of the newspaper Svoboda Slova Serhiy Vorontsov won in the nomination Portrait against the Background of the City’s History for his published works Confessions of the Unknown Mayor and Nobel Ninon and Honey of her Flowers. In the nomination My City My Fortune the victory was conferred to the journalist of the newspaper Chernivtsi Nataliya Feshchuk for the published works With the Native City in Heart and Valentyna Zymnya: I’ve Got Two Loves.

Project TACIS “Joint Cultural Heritage”: Building Bridges, Reviving Traditions The events of the TACIS project Joint Cultural Heritage took place during the City Days on October, 3-4. They included the 20th jubilee International folk festival Bukovynian Meetings, 2nd International festival Bukovynian Springs forum of the national communities of Bukovyna and presentation of the project results books, film and database. This year’s festival Bukovynian Meetings was carried out particularly solemnly. In its jubilee the festival gathered in the capital of Bukovyna 17 Ukrainian and 7 foreign folk groups that represent poly-ethnic communities of Ukraine, Romania, Poland, and Slovakia. The festive event aimed at popularization of the traditional Bukovynian culture enjoyed great popularity both among Chernivtsi audience and numerous guests and tourists. 150 foreign and 500 Ukrainian participants represented poly-ethnic folklore on the streets and squares of the city on pedestrian Olha Kobylyanska Street and on the open stage of Philharmonic Square.

Joseph Burg, the Last Writer who Wrote in Yiddish, Went into Eternity Chernivtsi City Council, its Executive Committee, Chernivtsi community inform with deep grief that the world known writer and publicist, active public figure of state and European levels, honoured citizen of Chernivtsi Joseph Burg went into eternity on August 10, 2009 at the age of 98. The entire epoch in the Ukrainian, Jewish literatures, development of polyethnic culture and art of the Bukovynian land are connected with his name. Knowing many languages of peoples of our planet Mr. Burg bore his talented word of truth about simple labour people and their surrounding world in Yiddish. The son of raft man from Vyzhnytsia, he was the first to glorify hard, dangerous and romantic work of these people skillfully, with light irony and merry mood, like Sholom Aleichem and Peretz Markish, he immortalized the images of Jews, Ukrainians, Romanians, Germans, Russians etc.

Project of the Concept of the Hotel Industry Development is discussed in Chernivtsi Project of the Concept of the hotel industry development was discussed on the session of the Committee on the Administration of the Strategy of Increasing of the Competitiveness of Chernivtsi, where city mayor Mykola Fedoruk participated. The principal aim of the Concept is to increase the level of services of the hotels in Chernivtsi. In the course of the Concept realization it is foreseen to improve financial and technical basis of the already existing and construction of the new modern hotels, to increase the quality of the services in accordance with the requirements of the international standards. Aiming at attraction of the investments in the domain of the hotel industry formation, a base of free plots for building of hotels and developing of a model of a typical small hotel payback were planned.
