Description of Chernivtsi Coat of Arms

The flagstaff is the main part of the flag. It’s bilateral, right-angled, measuring 136 x 180 cm.
The right side of the color cloth is a white silk background, set off with a satin stripe 12 cm. in width that consists of white and red tooth-form triangles. Raised embroidery appliqué is in the centre. It’s the city’s coat of arms – heraldic red shield with the silver (white) open gate with the seven edges on it, eight (four in a row) immured stones above them in two rows; in the middle of the open gate, there is the state coat of arms of Ukraine – figurative golden (yellow) trident. Under the gate there are two crossed laurel branches corded with a blue and yellow ribbon. The coat of arms is set off with a bronze ornamental cartouche and accomplished with a silver crown with five notable ledges. Above the coat of arms an inscription in Ukrainian “Chernivtsi” is embroidered in relief round a semicircle in academic print. Below the coat of arms there is an inscription “1408” (the date of the first written mention about Chernivtsi). Both sides of the coat of arms and all the four corners of the background are filled with an embroidered vegetable ornament, and in the corners of the background the ornaments are amplified with two beech branches with nuts, the leaves are embroidered with silk green threads of the wide palette.
The left side of the color cloth is a wide reps background set off with the same stripe, the right one is. The coat of arms of Ukraine is situated in the middle: heraldic blue shield with the golden figurative trident drew on it. All the four corners of the background are filled with a relief vegetable ornament that is amplified with two oak branches with acorns; the leaves are embroidered with silk green threads of the wide palette.
