Chernivtsi Street Was Named After the Philologist

According to the decision of the City Council session, new street that combines Khreshchatynska Street and Marmoroz’ka Street was named after the outstanding Ukrainian folklore researcher, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, famous Chernivtsi citizen Oleksa Romanets.
Oleksa Romanets (1921-1961) is an outstanding Ukrainian folklore researcher, philologist and critic, high school pedagogue, member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine, National Union of Journalists of Ukraine and All-Ukrainian Society of Ethnographers. There are more than 600 scientific, popular science and journalist publications in his masterpiece (including books “Literary Bukovyna”, “Sources of Fraternity”, “Hey, Hotyn, Famous City” and others). The main problems of his works are folklore and literary processes in Bukovyna, eastern-Romanic-Ukrainian folk and literary relations. Oleksa Romanets was honored with the award of presidium of Moldova, literary-artistic S. Vorobkevych and literary D. Zagul rewards. For his feats of arms during the Second World War he was awarded with the Order of Glory.
