The 104th Autumn of Tsolik Zisilis

On October, 17 the oldest Chernivtsi citizen Zisilis Tsolik celebrated his 104th birthday.
He was born in remote1905 in the city of Khotyn of Chernivtsi region. His father was a rabbi in the synagogue of Khotyn. In the times of war, Germans took the rabbi to ghetto and soon shot. Tsolik’s father was buried in the communal grave. Tsolik had also got to the ghetto, but survived. He worked in the mine of the concentration camp that was situated in the Vinnytsya district. Everyday he met death, mockery and hunger. Even today he thinks about the relatives he lost in the concentration camps with tears in his eyes. Tsolik Zisilis worked during all his life. He knows all the prayers from the Torah by heart. Till recently, two times a day he was going to the synagogue to pray. Today it’s too hard for him, but every Saturday the pensioner by himself descends from the third floor and now not on foot but by taxi goes to the synagogue in order to pray for the health and prosperity of his relatives and friends. His 104th birthday was not an exception. Zisilis commenced it with a traditional visit to the synagogue.
Tsolik Zisilis and his wife Roza were cordially congratulated by City Mayor Mykola Fedoruk, head of Pershotravnevyi District Council Yu. Vanchytskyi, Director of the charitable fund “Hesed-Shushana” L. Fuks, officials from the City and Pershotravnevyi District Departments of labor and social care. Agitated Tsolik wished all Chernivtsi citizens health and long life.
